1858, JAN. 248 THE SUMMERS.
TI-IE SUMMERS FAMILY.
The ancestors of the Suminers family of Platte came to the
Colonies, about 1700, from Holland. The mother died, and the
father returned to Europe. The sons, John and Samuel, were
reared by their mothers relatives. e have only to do with John.
He taught school for 52 years, and was 119 years of age at death.
His son, John, was a Revolutionary soldier, and witnessed the sur-
render of Cornwallis in 1781. He was born July 26, 1764; married.
October 20, 1786, Agnes Bell, daughter of Charles. She Was born
February 10, 1707. They came from Virginia to Kentucky, about
1789. Their children, with dates of birth, were:

I shall notice only those who came to Platte. or have de-
scendants here.
I. CARTER SUMMERS.
Son of John (ii). was born in Jessamine County, Ky., May 6, 1789;
n1d Martha Mills, of Fleming County. Ky. Carter died in 1849.

1849, Elizzilietli \ilson. dr. of John. of Pa1ry. They lived
in larkVille, and he became an enterprising merchant.

After the death of Mr. Sulnniers, his Widow md IV. -I.
Ilemis. h. NM. 3, 18231; d. Feb. 20, 1874. He was an urbane
;rentle1n:1n. a Knight Teniplar, and an enterprising citizen.
