JUDGE HENRY B. MAYO.
Jcm. 18Judge Henry B. Mayo having died, his son, H. J.
Mayo, administersed. Bond. $10,000. He lived n-ea.r Ridgely.
He came, about 1841, from Kentucky. He was an enthusiastic
Methodist, and a pillar of the church at Ridgely. He was a noble
specimen of a generous. kindl1earted Southern gentleman. In
August. 1844, he was elected county judge, and served a term,
with L-ewis and Freeland as his associates. His children were
well educated and highly esteemed. He married Margaret
McGuire. Children:

II. HENRY JEFF. MAYO. md 1st, Jan. 3, 1850, Mary E. Sha.ck-
elford. who died, and he md Sept. 20, 1854. Ruth J. Phelps,
who survived him. and married second. .mos Carpenter. Mr. Mayo
was a. man of good education and. in some respects. remark-
able brilliance. He wrote and published some excellent
poems. llut he was addicted to the cup. Yet he threw
his whole soul into the cause of temperance. and labored
faithfully for the Good Teniplars. He went west and
lied, leaving:
