1876, JULY 622 J. JOHNSON paper. called the Centennial Gazette, which died in the toils of the second nuniber. H. C. Colman starts a new tinshop in Platte City. July 6 - Benj. Brady having died. W. M. Kruser administers. Bond, $3,000. Children: 1. Angeline Calloway 2. Maria Street 3. Georgiana Brady 4. Jose Bonnell 5. Elizabeth Currier 6. James Brady 7. Benj. Brady 8. Elvira Brady July 7 - The temperance associations are said to have absorbed all others in the Fourth of July celebration. From 1870 the temperance work declined. The saloons entered into politics. The Landmark contains Major Morin's history of Platte County, Neely Lutes sketches, and a call on Colonel J. E. Pitt to run for the State Senate. July 8 - Democratic Nominating Convention at the court-house. R. P. C. Wilson chairnian. Delegates were appointed to the District Senatorial Convention, and instructed to vote for James Adkins. Mote P. Moore caught from the old bed of Platte River, near Waldron, a catfish that weighed 152 pounds. JOHN JOHNSON. July 15 - John Johnson died near Wa1dron. Richard Babcock administered. Bond. $1,000. He married, first, Susan Nash, a sister of Cornelius Nash. They lived near Waldron, and were excellent people. Children: I. AMOS JOHNSON, married Ellen Kern, dr. of Jonathan. Children: 1. Willie Johnson II. MARY JOHNSON, dead; married Meritt Hymer, dead; no children. III. THOMAS JOHNSON, married Sallie Moore, dr. of Turner Moore. She died childless, and he married again. IV. W. B. JOHNSON, went to Kansas V. JOHN H. JOHNSON, married a Smith VI. WILLIS JOHNSON, went to California VII. CORDELIA JOHNSON, went to Canada Mr. Johnson married second, Sarah Ann Haskell, daughter of Jacob Haskell. Children: VIII. WALLER R. JOHNSON, married Dec. 2, 1887, Lizzie Walker, daughter of Wiley Walker. Children: 1. Wiley Johnson IX. ROSA JOHNSON, married Thomas Knight, nephew of F. M. Knight. X. ALONZO JOHNSON XI. GRANT JOHNSON Mrs. Sarah Ann Johnson survived her husband, and married, second, F. M. Knight, of Waldron. June 17 - Ben J. Franklin is nominated by the Democratic Convention at Kansas City, for Congress, on the 114th ballot. The Iatan bridge is finished and paid for.
