1878, JAN. 649 BUSINESS MEN PRICES JANUARY Jan. 1 - Bad roads. A post-office is established at Settle's Station, and Henry Turner is postmaster. Sunday-school superintendents at Platte City: M. M. Cockrell, of the M. E. school; J. R. Swain, of the Presbyterian school; E. C. Cockrill, of the Christian school; and W. V. Sloan, of the Baptist school. The acreage of wheat sowed is greater than any former year, and amounts to about 50,000 acres in the county. Jan. 3 - Abram Leipard died in the bottom near Farley.
