1881, JULY. 733 WELLS FAMILY. July 1 - Judge E. H. Norton has discovered a mineral spring on his farm three miles east of Platte City, which, competent judges say, posses remarkable medical properties. For several years the waters were used and praised, but the spring is no longer visited. July 2 - President Garfield shot by Guiteau. He died September 19th, and memorial services were held at Platte City. July 4 - The day was observed at the fair grounds and at Farley. July 5 - Weather - Temperature 102 degrees. Henry W. Wells died nine miles north of Weston. THE WELLS FAMILY William Wells (i) was born in Virginia In November, 1797; came to Kentucky, and thence to Platte, in the spring of 1843. He married first, Elizabeth Thorp, aunt of Squire B. Thorp. She was born in July, 1801. After her death, he married, second, Mrs. Louisa English, daughter of George Coakley.
