| History Note: | James Nelson Burnes opened a law firm with his partner Henry J. Wolf in Weston, MO 1853. He married Mary A. Skinner in 1847 and graduated from Harvard law school in 1852. In 1867 was appointed Judge of the Weston Court of Common Pleas and resigned the position in 1872 and moved to St. Joseph. There he and his brother Calvin F. started the National Bank of St. Joseph and waterworks for the City of St. Joseph. He was elected to Congress in 1882 and served until his death on January 24, 1889. - |
