History Note: | The building originally was the Tootle Opera House, a dream of Milton Tootle, a local businessman and community leader. With between $165,000 and $200,000 in 1872, Tootle contracted with the architect W. Angelo Powell to build his dream. Upon completion, it was declared to be the finest opera house west of the Mississippi River. - |
